John Ciovacco presents at the Capital District Engineers Week

John Ciovacco On Friday, February 14th, over 100 people attended a standing room only talk given by John Ciovacco on Next Generation Geothermal: Best Practices, Future Developments & Innovative Applications at this year’s Capital District Engineers Week, held at the Albany Marriot. The Capital District E-Week’s focus is to promote the Engineering Profession while offering numerous seminars for professional development hours (PDHs) over two days in one location.

During his session, John presented the latest advancements in commercially available electric vapor compression heat pumps including inverter driven compressors and variable refrigerant flow (VRF) for ground and water source heat pump systems.    Geothermal hybrid system approaches combined with air source coolers, high efficiency combustion heating systems, and solar thermal equipment were also discussed.  Lastly, examples of demonstration projects and experimental approaches using heat driven refrigeration equipment (e.g., absorption), natural refrigerants, wastewater heat recovery, and more were shown.
