EPRI’s Feature Article on Community-Scale Geothermal

EPRI’s Article on Community-Scale Geothermal – the Electric Power Research Institute’s (EPRI) February 2021 newsletter, Efficient Electrification features a lead story by editor Michael Matz entitled New York, Massachusetts Utilities Investigate Potential New Business Model: Community-Scale Geothermal. The author writes, “…the beginnings of a potentially tectonic shift in how buildings are heated and cooled may be afoot. In states with ambitious new climate laws, natural gas utilities are investigating the possibility of pivoting to a new business model that involves deploying and managing community-scale geothermal systems that circulate water in large underground pipe networks and exchange energy among numerous buildings.” The article highlights comments from NY-GEO board member, John Ciovacco of Aztech Geothermal, along with contributions from the GreyEdge Group, HEET, Eversource, ConEdison and National Grid.
